The stolen cheque can keep earning after it is altered.
FinCEN found that 44% of stolen cheques in its six-month review were altered and deposited. Another 26% became templates for counterfeits, while 20% were fraudulently signed and deposited. The payee line was changed most often. Some cheques were washed with chemicals, copied or sold through online marketplaces and encrypted social platforms.
FinCEN received 15,417 reports from 841 institutions covering more than $688 million in suspicious activity. Some filings included attempted amounts even when the transfer failed. The figure measures reported suspicion. Confirmed loss is a separate measure.
Britain counts losses. America counted suspicious activity.

Blake found a place where the room understands him.
Shelley is training for the London Marathon because her son Blake, who is autistic, found something precious at Cynon Valley PALS: activities with fewer people, lower noise and families who understand. Her page records 20.45 training miles, with fresh runs added on 7 August. The fundraiser had £765 donated, plus £42.50 Gift Aid, and 252 days to go when checked.
