FedNow processes and settles each payment individually within seconds. The Federal Reserve debits and credits the banks’ master accounts; participating banks must then make the money available immediately after settlement notification.
That distinction matters: the movement between banks has happened too. Speed with certainty, not a fast-looking front end over a slow back end.
